Josefina Fernandez is a Miami-based, Argentina-born professional fashion illustrator and designer with an international client base. Since beginning a career as a freelance fashion illustrator two years ago, she has already had opportunities to work with famous fashion designers, editors, and high profile brands.
Josefina cites her artistic influences among the likes of Van Gogh, Diego Velazquez, Wayne Thiebaud, Brandi Milne, Jordi Labanda, and Takashi Murakami. She has been drawing since childhood, and is inspired by art exhibitions, museums, and any sort of fashion ensemble, color combination, or texture that captures her imagination. “As a kid I had the realization that, through sketching, I had the power to create different worlds [and] universes,” Josefina recalls. “If I can sketch it, it comes into existence. I still feel the same way.”
As a fashion illustrator, Josefina is passionate about keeping up with trends and designs by prominent fashion designers and brands. She dresses her doll-like female characters in her favorite fashion pieces, noting, “My girls live in an ideal world, with perfect weather, good hair days every day, a dream closet, ever-blooming cherry blossoms no matter the season, and of course, their lashes on fleek.”
Josefina works primarily with watercolor, gouache, and art markers. She appreciates the versatility of watercolors and gouache, while using artist-grade markers to create a precise, saturated look.
Josefina uses a variety of synthetic Princeton brushes from various lines. “My most used brushes are the Velvetouch™ Round # 1, the Snap!™ Bright Shader #6, the 1/4” Select™ Artiste Angular Shader, and the 20/0 Select™ Artiste Petite Shader. I recently got the [Collapsible Watercolor Bucket] and I can’t wait to use it at my next trip and live-sketching event.”
“I love the results I can get with them. They are quite affordable as well,” Josefina continues. “The Snap series is a delight and is the most affordable of them all. I really like how watercolors behave with white synthetic fibers. I recently discovered the Velvetouch™ 1/4” Angular Shader and I can’t let go. I now paint most of my illustrations with it. It’s so awesome!”
