When I first caught a glimpse of Michael’s work I was amazed by the detail and depth. His work is painted on scrap sheet metal which offers an added element of texture and dimension.  Each individual unique metallic surface is imbued with history, color and variation adding realism to the composition.  His choice of surface seems to celebrate how exceptionally unique and interesting art can be when it begins with fantastic ‘imperfections’ as opposed to a perfectly clean blank slate. Combined with the incredible detail of the subject,  Michael’s work seems to halt time, creating a sense of nostalgia and curiosity.

Michael uses Select™ Artiste Series #3750 to paint the fine detail and lettering on a variety of his art.

“I mainly use the 20/0 Select™ Artiste Petite. A lot of my work involves tiny lettering that requires a fine pointed brush. I’m amazed at how well that 20/0 brush has held up. I’ve used it hundreds of times and the point always comes back sharp.”

About Michael Fitts

“Elevating the importance of ephemeral objects to the status of art is what I find most interesting. From discovering a piece of interesting metal and constructing a frame, to selecting the subject to be painted, the evolution of a piece provides many creative challenges and rewards of which I feel I am only beginning to scratch the surface.”
